I'm sitting here two days before Christmas and I am not really in the holiday spirit. I have been, don't get me wrong, because Christmas is without a doubt my favorite time of the year. But I've just been kicked in the teeth again by the school of hard knocks. You know the school I'm talking about don't you? It's the place you go and if you don't learn your lessons well - then you are probably doomed for failure.
The lesson for today is two-fold: 1. Diversify beyond eBay. 2. When setting up your seller account on eBay, set up many, many, many. A bunch of them. Did you get that? Set up a LOT of them.
I've heard my friend Sydney Johnston preach for years that you DO NOT OWN an eBay business. eBay owns your business. And now I really understand what she meant. Here is what happened to me yesterday. I woke up and discovered one of my seller accounts had been closed down by eBay. And this was through no fault of my own. The problem is if eBay thinks you are doing something wrong then you are guilty until you can prove you are innocent. Now luckily I had taken some of my own advice and set up multiple seller accounts, so I'm not out of business on eBay. BUT now I do have to transfer everything I've done over to this new account. When you use third-party auction management services such as I do that can amount to a bunch of work. I'm sure that eBay will reverse course once I'm actually able to talk to someone about the appeal of my account suspension but in the mean time I'm losing thousands of dollars.
So how does one diversify? Well, my next step beyond selling products on eBay is to start opening online stores. And in the next two to three years I plan on opening a lot of them. I've been learning a system from a couple of guys, Andy Jenkins and Brad Fallon, which shows proven methods for obtaining success in online store marketing. I invite you to go to my friend Brad's website and read the story of his website selling wedding favors, did you get that? Wedding Favors, which has done over ONE MILLION DOLLARS in sales the very first year. The website that explains it all is called Stomping The Search Engines. And you can find out all you need to know about putting together that online store by visiting Andy Jenkins.
For a special holiday surprise, tomorrow I'll reveal one other method of diversification that let's you do the work once and get paid forever. How do you like that idea?
Well, now that I've vented I think I've gotten all of the "bah humbug" out of me. I hope each and every one of you have a very Merry Christmas. And be safe during this holiday season.
